Things to do in San Vito Lo Capo and the surrounding area

The Sicily you don’t expect starts here.

There’s a side to Sicily that you won’t find in the guidebooks. A land of paths scented with rosemary and wild thyme, of hidden coves where the water is so crystal-clear you can see the fish, of medieval villages shrouded in mist atop the mountains, and of pink flamingos in the salt pans at sunset.

A wild, ancient, sensory Sicily.

San Vito Lo Capo isn’t only one of Italy’s most beautiful beaches, it’s also the perfect base for exploring western Sicily. The Zingaro Nature Reserve is 13km away. Just 6km away are the rugged cliffs of Macari. 37km away lies Trapani with its ancient salt pans.

Put your trust in those who know Sicily like the back of their hand: GeoTravel, the tour operator of Geocharme Luxury Collection.

Zingaro Nature Reserve

The first nature reserve established in Sicily. Paths through the Mediterranean maquis, white pebble coves, and a sea that fades from blue to emerald green. Just 13km from the hotel – the most unspoilt Sicily.

Macari: the wildest

Only 6km from the hotel, the coast changes character. A scenic cliff with hidden coves, clear waters, the imposing profile of Mt Cofano behind. For those seeking privacy, nature, and iconic views.

Mangiapane Cave

A 70-metre-high cavity in the rock, with an entire village of stone houses inside that has remained intact since the 19th century. Dolce & Gabbana chose it as the set for an advertising campaign. And you, will you visit it?

The village of Erice

Perched 750 metres above sea level on Mt Erice, it’s also called “the city of clouds”. The cobbled streets, the castle of Venus, the colourful ceramics in the shops, the almond cakes, the cream-filled Genovesi pastries: irresistible.

The salt pans of Trapani

Built by the Phoenicians five thousand years ago, they took advantage of sun, wind, and shallow waters. Windmills, pink flamingos, the salt crystallising under the Sicilian sun. At sunset, the salt pans become a spectacle of orange and gold hues.

Faraglioni of Scopello sea stacks

They emerge from the turquoise water like stone sentinels, with the ancient Tonnara behind them, one of the best-preserved tuna fisheries in the Mediterranean. Reaching these rock formations by sea is a unique experience.
